Bill Cunningham: Fashion Photography
In today's post, I will be discussing the legendary Bill Cunningham and some of his work. I really look to him as inspiration and he was an amazing journalist/photographer, loved by many.
Who was Bill Cunningham?
Bill Cunningham was a fashion photographer and journalist, who worked with the NY Times. He was known for his street photography and real-life "candid" photos. He was a Harvard dropout and started his own hat brand. Later on, he moved to writing the Women's Wear Daily for the Chicago Tribune. As he continued on with his work, he became loved by the likes of Anna Wintour and Naomi Campbell. After his passing Naomi stated that the Met Gala wouldn't be the same without him snapping photos. He was (and still is) an inspiration for many photographers and he truly shaped the way we view fashion through photography today.
His work left a big impression on how street photographers work today and many photographers use his photos for inspiration. I thought it would be a good idea to put some of my favorite photos that he has taken below:
